Students & lone soldiers
Students, gap year and lone soldiers
Haifa is home to the Technion and the University of Haifa, and the municipality counts more than 53,000 students in the city's academic institutions. The Rakbalit cable car links Merkazit HaMifratz with both campuses. In 2024 the municipal absorption authority held an event for more than 300 lone soldiers living in Haifa.

- Getting around Haifa: Carmelit, Metronit, cable cars and trainsHaifa's public transport goes up the mountain as well as across it: the underground Carmelit, the Metronit, two cable cars, six railway stations and some buses that run on Shabbat.
- Renting and buying in HaifaWhat rent costs in Haifa by neighbourhood, the paperwork after you sign (arnona, water, the olim discount), housing help, and where the land registry is.
- Your first week in HaifaThe order I'd do things in during your first week in Haifa: Beit Ole, the Interior Ministry, the bank, the Ministry of Aliyah, your health fund and ulpan, with addresses, hours and the numbers to keep.
Good to know
Olim students get ulpan through the Ministry of Aliyah; the Technion's own Hebrew course is for international students and staff only. The Rakbalit runs on Motzaei Shabbat.
